TECHNICAL AND TRAINING

NECA's Technical and Training Services fill members' educational and informational needs in areas such as estimating, electrical installation, job management practices, and business management.

A prime function in this respect is that NECA represents electrical contractors on all 20 code making panels of the National Electrical Code Committee. The Code sets basic standards for electrical equipment, materials, and methods of installation. NECA also helps develop the National Electrical Safety Code, concerned with outside construction.

NECA's Technical and Training Services also include development of material and equipment standards through representation on American National Standards Institute committees, development of specifications and drawing standards through work with organizations such as the Construction Specifications Institute, and development of wiring and installation standards such as the NECA Standard of Installation and the NECA Wiring Symbols Standard.

Safety is also a prime concern for NECA. It's through Technical and Training Services that NECA maintains its membership in the National Safety Council, maintains a liaison relationship with the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, provides testimony and comment on the development of OSHA Safety and Health standards as well as on the administration of OSHA law, and generally informs NECA members of developments and safety practices in the industry.

In general, electrical contractors look to NECA for programs and information to satisfy their management and operational needs and NECA responds with the most useful innovations in the industry.
